If clogged pores on your face seem like a constant battle, it is time to switch up your daily skincare routine. But if you feel like you’ve tried everything to no avail, think again. If you haven’t yet tried a konjac sponge, you are not out of options. A staple in Japanese beauty and skincare routines for generations, konjac sponges, can help clean pores, thereby minimizing the size of your pores.

What Causes Clogged Pores?

Clogged pores are caused by dirt, dead skin cells, and excess oil. Often, all three combine to clog pores resulting in pimples and bumps resembling blackheads. Some individuals have naturally larger pores. Others are prone to excess sebum (natural oil) production.

No matter the reason for clogged pores, there is a solution, and it’s not squeezing the pores. (This may even cause your pores to appear larger over time, as the wear and tear can stretch them out.) Instead, consider using a naturally fibrous, organic facial scrubber that provides gentle exfoliation and is safe for daily use.

What Makes Konjac Sponges So Special?

Konjac sponges are 100% certified organic vegetable root fiber sponges from the konjac plant. Available in many varieties (made by adding natural ingredients such as leaf extracts and charcoal), konjac sponges are free from petroleum, additives, toxins, and coloring. As a vegan, and therefore, cruelty-free skincare product, konjac sponges use the fibers of the konjac plant to cleanse and remove dead skin cells gently. Konjac sponges grown at the Yamamoto Farm at the base of the Japanese Alps are also wholly sustainable.

Dermatologists recommend konjac sponges specifically for clogged pores. This is because the plant’s fibers provide gentle, natural exfoliation. Moreover, konjac sponges are excellent for cleansing the face and removing residual dirt. If you have acne-prone skin, you may want to start with a konjac sponge infused with charcoal, as charcoal has been used for thousands of years to draw toxins from the body.

How to Use a Konjac Sponge

Konjac sponges are designed for daily use. Before using your konjac sponge the first time, soak it in water for 1-2 minutes before squeezing out the water. Then apply a small amount of your favorite facial cleanser to the sponge and begin gently scrubbing your face using a circular motion.

When you’re finished using your sponge, rinse any remaining cleanser from the sponge and allow it to dry in a well-ventilated area. Wringing out the sponge is not recommended as it can damage the gentle fibers. For best results, replace your konjac sponge every four weeks.
